I hope everyone is dieting BEFORE the Shade Tree Fly-in. Here is an update on the Friday night menu from Barbara:

So far I have 40 shrimp stuffed bell peppers, and I have 30 pounds of jumbo shrimp in my freezer to boil..... In addition I am planning to fix potato salad, macaroni salad, Deviled Eggs, Red Beans, and rice and 2 beef tenderloins.

As always, we need to bring desserts to complement dinner & snacks to have for the rest of the weekend.

Dinner Saturday night is at Steve's Marina.  They are finally back open and on the Gulf as they were before Katrina!!!

Fun for the non-flyers…

We have several options available on Saturday.  There is a Prime Outlet Mall in Gulfport.  I am sure a few ladies may choose to golf.  I discovered a darling little town called Ocean Springs that has lots of great little shops and eateries.  It's about 30 minutes east of Gulfport.  Lee & I drove there Sunday afternoon last year & loved it!  Of course, there's always a trip to the French Quarter available if enough folks want to go.

Flying Activities…

I am confident that Rusty has the full complement of fun planned for the flyers.  Shade Tree tends to attract quite a crowd of spectators which adds to the fun.

If you have any questions contact the Butlers ...

SNAG MEMORIAL DAY FLY-IN , 25(Fri)- 28 (Mon) May,2012

(From Blake Fleming)

SNAG Group,

Rusty has asked that I forward the information out to everyone on the Memorial Day Fly In - Friday May 25th - Monday May 28th.

I will be hosting along with my brother Heath Fleming (a new Navion owner) in our home town of Gadsden, AL (KGAD).

We have excellent support from the airport manager and the City of Gadsden for our visit.

Hotel Information
We have a block of rooms reserved at the Hampton Inn for $79.00 per night.  Please give them a call to make your reservation and tell them you are with the SNAG Group:

Hampton Inn
206 Walker Street, Gadsden, Alabama, USA 35904
Tel:  1-256-538-5222   Fax:  1-256-538-5231

The hotel is 2-miles from the airport and is located right next to 3 restaurants (Cracker Barrel, Ruby Tuesdays, and Old Mexico) that are an easy walk.  Also, next door is the Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn and Comfort Inn.

Airport
This is a non-towered airport so we should have easy access to the field. The airport has 2 large runways... 6/24 is the main runway @ 6800 x 150 feet.  The cross runway is 18/36 @ 4800 x 150 feet.  The CTAF is 122.8.  There is very little traffic at this airport for its size. The Airport Manager is Fred Sington .  His cell# is 256-458-4151.
The FBO is a large building with a 2nd level that looks over the ramp.  The current gas price is $5.95 which is full serve.  They will offer a discount of $0.50 per gallon off the current price at the time of the fly in.

Activities
We are looking at a some good possibilities for activities....here is what we are planning:

International Motorsports Hall of Fame & Museum:  This is a good opportunity for a fly out.  Located directly adjacent to the Talladega Airport (KASN) is the hall of fame, museum and the speedway.  In addition to the museum and hall of fame, we can take a guided group tour of the super speedway itself.  Would be a 15 minute flight (or a 40 minute drive) from Gadsden.

Noccalula Falls - Located right in Gadsden, this is a 90 foot water fall with a large park that includes a zoo and other attractions.  This made national news a few weeks ago when some guys went over it in kayaks (see the video link showing this).

Golf - There are several top golf courses near by including River Trace and Twin Bridges, both of which play along the Coosa River and offer a unique setting. http://twinbridgesgolf.com/

Top of the River:  This is a destination type restaurant that people come from all over to eat at.  It is located directly on the Coosa river and has a deck over the water with a bar.  The food is outstanding and we could get our own banquet room if we wanted it.  One of my high school friends runs the place.  http://www.topotheriverrestaurant.com/

There are other local attractions including a river walk and historic downtown areahttp://gadsden-etowahtourismboard.com/

Feel free to call me if you have any questions or if we can do anything to help you make plans.  We look forward to seeing everyone in Gadsden, AL
